The Fundació Privada Institut de Neurorehabilitació Guttmann (FPING) is a private, community beneficial, nondenominational, non-profit organization ascribed to the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The mission of FPING is to provide the most comprehensive, customized and specialized medical and rehabilitation care at the highest human, scientific and technical level. Its modern facilities, a team of nearly 400 practitioners and a record of more than 17.000 patients treated make the Institut Guttmann one of the most advanced, world-class hospitals of its kind. It furthermore runs its own University Research Institute, which develops education programs, scientific and research aspects in the area of neuroscience in general, and neurorehabilitation and technologies applied to personal independence in particular.

Through this combination of Hospital/Centre of Excellence and Research/Centre of Knowledge, is in the exceptional position of continuous improvement in study, practice and feedback: it provides a significant case body to maintain and develop the employee’s expertise, guarantee security, quality and efficiency of care and, furthermore, grounds on a systematic use of an accurate and ethical work model.

Main research areas of GUTT are: Bioengineering applied to functional rehabilitation, Information and Communication Technologies applied to cognitive rehabilitation, Cell Therapy applied to Spinal Cord Injury and ABI, Neuromodulation and Noninvasive Stimulation, Digestive Neurophysiology and Data analysis applied to knowledge generation.

Role in the project
FPING will mainly be responsible for the development and integration of the monitoring and trainings modules for cognitive functioning. As such they are involved in WP3 and WP4. As they have extensive end user experience they are also involved in WP2 and WP5


Teresa Roig, PhD in Psychology, Clinical Psychology Specialist, is the Head of the Neuro-Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Department of Institut Guttmann. Master in Neuropsychology, she has coordinated and participated in numerous competitive translational research projects at national and international level, and her areas of expertise are the assessment and diagnosis in brain damage, the Neuropsychological Rehabilitation and the Telerehabilitation.

Rocío Sánchez-Carrión, Master in Clinical Neuropsychology (2000) and PhD in Psychology by the University of Barcelona in 2008, with a rating of Excellent cum Laude, with the work “Alteration and recovery of brain activation during working memory tasks in patients with severe and diffuse brain injury”. Neuropsychologist attached to the Neuro-psychosocial Rehabilitation Unit of the Guttmann Institute, where she works since 2001.

Alejandro Garcia, Computer Engineer in the Research Department of GUTT since 2003, has the Virtual Reality Graduate of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (2004) and the Diploma of Advanced Studies of the PhD in Artificial Intelligence of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (2009). Member of the Knowledge Engineering and Machine Learning Group at the same University and co-researcher on the project Guttmann NeuroPersonalTrainer®, has published over 15 articles in journals of the speciality and participated in various National and International Conferences.

Alberto García, Degree in Psychology from the University of Barcelona in 2001 and Master in Applied Psychogerontology and Neurosciences (2003) and Vocational Training in Neuropsychology (2004), is PhD in Neuroscience by the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2011. Neuropsychologist at the Neuro-Psychosocial Rehabilitation of GUTT, his main lines of expertise are Neuropsychological Rehabilitation of Acquired Brain Injury and ICTs applied to neuropsychological rehabilitation and cognitive stimulation. Alberto is author of numerous scientific papers and co-investigator of several research projects.

Vega Muriel, Degree in Psychology by the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca in 2010. Master in Behavioural Neurology and Neuropsychology (2012) and Master in Cognitive Stimulation and in Neuropsychological Rehabilitation and Cognitive Stimulation (2012). Fellow of the Neuro-Psychosocial Rehabilitation Department and the Research Department of GUTT, her main research interests are the Neuropsychological Rehabilitation of the Acquired and the Congenic Brain Injury in children and ICTs applied to Neuropsychological Rehabilitation and Cognitive Stimulation.

Celeste Aparicio, Degree in Psychology by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2010). She has a Master in Neuropsychological Rehabilitation and Cognitive Stimulation by the Institut Guttmann-UAB (2011) and is graduated in Neuropsychology by ISEP (2012). She is currently part of the Research and the Neuro-psychosocial Rehabilitation Department of GUTT as a fellow; and has started her doctoral thesis. Her main research interests are neuropsychological rehabilitation of Acquired Brain Injury and ICTs applied to Neuropsychological Rehabilitation and Cognitive Stimulation.
